August 2021
Position Assessment: I have created different forms of advertisement for powder puff. I made four Instagram posts and a poster for our table at club rush. I have used google forms to sign students up for powder puff. In the future, I will continue to make advertisements for sporting events. I will prepare for powder puff by getting the supplies and announcing important information. I will also plan dodge ball with my partner in the same way as powder puff.
Standing Committee: I am not participating in a standing committee at this time.
Special Committee: For the back to school dance, I was a part of the decoration committee. I made posters to advertise ticket sales and the date of the dance. I also helped hang the posters around campus so that the student body was aware that we were having the back to school dance.
Mentorship Evaluation: I am new to the program so I am not a mentor. Emma Phelps is my mentor. She has done an amazing job of making sure that I know what is going on and shows me how to complete paperwork and build my website. I take in everything she has to say so that I can be the best leader I can be for this class and for my school.
Concerns: My biggest concern is disorganization. Preparation for club rush seemed last minute and it appeared as though no one planned ahead of time. I think that as a class we need to have specific committees to make advertisements and spread awareness of upcoming events.
Positive Comment: I think that club rush was extremely successful. There was a constant line at a lot of tables and there were a lot of students getting involved, especially freshmen which is fantastic. The table for powder puff was busy for the entire hour. My partner and I had around one hundred and seventy people sign up for powder puff.
Change: I would like to see the class be more organized as a whole and I would also like to have more supplies. When the decorations committee and I were making back to school dance posters, it was difficult to find quality supplies to make the posters. They all looked cluttered and disorganized because we had to work with what we had. We should brainstorm ideas in class for more fundraising opportunities.
My Impact: I have made an impact on the student body by publicizing upcoming events. For powder puff, I made multiple advertisements to spread awareness about powder puff and the students responded. I have heard from many students that they are excited about powder puff and being able to participate in events now that we have less restrictions. I remembered my purpose as a leader to get my peers to be eager about getting involved. That was my goal when I joined the leadership program.

September & October 2021
Position Assessment: As athletics commissioner, it is part of my job description to put on the powder puff event. With the assistance of my partner, we were able to host a successful event. I advertised powder puff to the student body through Instagram and daily announcements. My partner and I held an informational meeting in the gym for those who were interested in participating in powder puff as a player, coach, or cheerleader. I created a roster for everyone who wanted to participate and held four practices before the game. Practices were on September 14, 16, 21, and 23. At practices, I took attendance of the players and coaches that were sophomores and juniors. I also participated in running football drills and plays. On September 27 and 28, my partner and I distributed jerseys to the players on both teams. Prior to these dates, I took inventory on the jerseys that we had available. I also met with the athletic director at Ripon High School to make sure that each player, coach, and cheerleader was athletically cleared to participate in the game. Each step I took was in preparation for the event, which was held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. Powder puff was a flag football game played with the freshmen and seniors against the sophomores and juniors. My partner and I arranged to have referees and announcers for the game. The event was an extremely successful fundraiser to support our leadership program. Now that the event is over, my partner and I are collecting the jerseys from players and taking inventory again to make sure that the school re-obtains all of its property.
Standing Committee: I am not participating in a standing committee at this time.
Special Committee: Last month, the back to school dance was canceled due to bad air quality. The dance was rescheduled for September 18. I was a part of the decoration committee. I made posters to advertise ticket sales and the date of the dance. I also helped hang the posters around campus so that the student body was aware that we were having the back to school dance. On the day of the dance, I came to school to decorate the area we were hosting the event. I hung streamers from the fence posts and made large banners as a backdrop. After the dance was over, I cleaned up all of the decorations to restore the campus to its original form.
Mentorship Evaluation: Emma Phelps has been the best mentor I could ever ask for. I have known her for a long time, but as my mentor, I have been able to grow even closer to her. I always feel comfortable asking Emma questions, whether it has to do with school or life in general. I look forward to seeing her in class every day and I consider her to be a great friend. I always listen to her advice about this class so that I am better prepared to lead my peers on campus.
Concerns: I am delighted to report that I have no concerns for our class at the moment. I think that we are making the best of our situation with COVID-19 and that is all I could ask for as a student leader.
Positive Comment: Everyone in this class is doing an amazing job at working hard and collaborating. The class officers put in so much time and effort to plan homecoming. The student involvement around campus was stunning. I am so grateful to be working with all of the individuals in this program.
Change: As a whole class, I think that everyone does a good job of communicating with each other, but I think that we can do better. Everyone gets along well, but it is obvious that there is a division in the classroom. I think that we should do a leadership bonding activity as a class so that we can all form stronger relationships with each other.
My Impact: In the past, it has been a tradition to have a male cheer team at the powder puff game. Due to the lack of student involvement, high school boys have not felt comfortable participating in cheer for the event. As athletics commissioner, it was one of my goals for the event to bring back guy cheer. I am proud to say that I made a large enough impact on the student body to bring back a tradition that has been buried for years. The cheer team brought positivity and excitement to the student body during the game.

November & December 2021
Position Assessment: As athletics commissioner, I am in charge of making the senior night memorable for senior athletes at Ripon High School. For football, I made a poster for each senior with their last name and jersey number. For cheer, I made a poster for each senior with their last name and a fun design. I made a balloon arch for both football and cheer since their senior night was on the same day. Before the football game, I passed out roses to the football players and cheerleaders. During the ceremony, these athletes give their roses to their mom to recognize all of the dedication it takes to be an athlete's mother. Senior night is designed to honor these athletes in their last year of high school and acknowledge their favorite memories. I appreciate the opportunity to be involved in this special event.
Standing Committee: I am not participating in a standing committee at this time.
Special Committee: I volunteered to help make paper snowflakes for each student at Ripon High School. I also participated in decorating every classroom door in preparation for warm and fuzzy week.
Mentorship Evaluation: Throughout the whole year, each student in leadership has been contemplating what job they want to research and learn about. I chose neurosurgery. In December, we have to write a cover letter and create a resume as if we were applying for a job. I was having difficulty completing this task because I have never done anything like it before. Emma has been a huge help in teaching me each aspect of a job application and interview. She taught me the correct formatting for the cover letter and resume and she has shown me examples of each. I am so grateful to have Emma as my mentor.
Concerns: My main concern is side conversations in class. I acknowledge that I am a part of this problem along with many other student. I am working hard to remind myself to focus while we are in class.
Positive Comment: The sophomore class did an amazing job preparing for formal and setting up for the dance. It turned out so beautiful. The student involvement for the warm and fuzzy week has been great and I cannot wait to see what Winterfest brings next month.
Change: As a class, we need to focus more. I think it is difficult because we are all good friends and it is hard to not talk to each other. Regardless, we need to be more intentional with our time in class.
My Impact: In previous years, athletics commissioners have not participated in the senior night and have not done anything special for the event. I spent many hours creating posters for each senior football player and cheerleader. I also took much of my time making the balloon arch. My partner along with others helped me hang all of the posters and balloon arch in the stands. I volunteered to pass out roses during the ceremony. I put in so much work for the ceremony that Mrs. Valdez requested that I completely take over the event next year. I impacted the seniors and their families by making their night memorable.

January 2022
Position Assessment: My partner and I wrote up a proposal for intermural dodge ball. We gave our proposal to Mr. Rangel and we are waiting for approval.
Standing Committee: I am not participating in a standing committee at this time. I plan to apply for Link Crew for the 2022-2023 school year in February.
Special Committee: I am not participating in a special committee at this time.
Mentorship Evaluation: Emma Phelps has been the best mentor. I was absent for a few weeks due to an illness. Emma checked in to see how I was doing multiple times. She also made sure that I knew how to do each assignment while I was gone. She is always super supportive and I am so thankful to have her as my mentor.
Concerns: My main concern for this month is the competition for elections. It is supposed to be friendly, but I have heard people talk poorly of others to make themselves look better. This is concerning because as leaders, we should be supporting each other instead of hurting one another.
Positive Comment: Winterfest was a huge success! The sophomores did an amazing job planning and coordinating this event. We decorated almost every day at school and everyone put in so much effort. I had a great time participating in the spirit days. There were so many people that dressed up that the spirit commissioners ran out of candy!
Change: One thing that I would change is the number of decorations that we did for Winterfest. I think that we should limit the number of decorations to two or three during the week. It was a busy time for a lot of students and it was difficult to plan the decorations and get all of our work done.
My Impact: I have had a positive attitude for the whole month of January. I am living every day to the fullest and I hope that my attitude impacts others.
Standing Committee: I am not participating in a standing committee at this time. I plan to apply for Link Crew for the 2022-2023 school year in February.

February & March 2022
Position Assessment: Kade and I got approval from Mr. Rangel to host dodgeball at lunch. We started by publicizing the event. We made an Instagram account for dodgeball and we also created an announcement form for the school to hear. Then, we made a google form and emailed it to all of the students and staff to sign up to play. There were twelve teams that signed up for the event. I made the bracket for all of the games at lunch. I talked to multiple teachers to ask them to chaperone the event. I also made a sign-up sheet for the leadership class to volunteer to clean up the gym after every lunch period. Kade and I held a meeting for all of the dodge ball participants. We announced the bracket and told everyone the rules. During the week of the event, I left class early every day to set up the gym. I kept track of every game so that I could maintain the bracket. I was also in constant communication with Mr. Perez about planning dodgeball next year. We created a list of improvements that need to be made. Overall, the event was a huge success. There was a lot of student participation which was awesome to see.
Standing Committee: I am participating in Link Crew for the 2022-2023 school year. I participated in 8th Grade Welcome Day by leading a group of incoming freshmen around campus. We showed them JROTC, the Ag Department, freshmen classes, and other important parts of the campus. The event was a success and I think that the eighth graders had a great experience.
Special Committee: I am participating in the teacher committee for the challenge. I have worked with my classmates who are on this committee to find ways to show gratitude toward our amazing teachers. My group also presented our plans to Morty at the beginning of March.
Mentorship Evaluation: Emma has been great. I am extremely sad that the school year is almost over. I am going to miss her so much next year. She has done everything you can ask of a mentor and more. I love spending time with her outside of school. We have grown really close over the past year. I hope that I will be as good of a mentor as her when I am at her stage in the program.
Concerns: My main concern from the past month was preparation for dodgeball. It was stressful to plan an event in only a few weeks. We usually have a lot more time to plan for an event like that, but we were given approvals very late. I hope that we have more time to plan the event next year. I made a list of pros and cons to improve dodgeball next year.
Positive Comment: I would like to give a positive comment to Jenna Skavdahl. She has been a great friend these past few months. She is always willing to help me when I need it or check up on me when I am not in class. She has been a ray of positivity that everyone needs in life. She is also an extremely hard worker. I do not know how she does it. She juggles sports, school, and leadership effortlessly. I look forward to spending the rest of my high school career with her.
Change: One thing that I would change is the level of focus in class. I think that as we near the end of the year, students are focusing on other classes during leadership or talking with their friends. I think that we need to work on being more productive even when we are tired.
My Impact: I have stepped up as a leader on our softball team. I am not afraid to talk on the field and cheer on my teammates. I also lead the outfield by telling my teammates what to expect every play and guiding them when they need assistance.

April & May 2022
Position Assessment: In terms of my job description, my job as athletics commissioner ended in March after dodge ball. Although I have no more responsibilities in my position, I have a responsibility to support my leadership class. I have been helping the sophomore class in any way that I can. I also helped Morty set up for the leadership conference in Modesto. I try and help out as much as I can because I know that there are some people in class that are super busy and need help.
Standing Committee: I am participating in Link Crew for the 2022-2023 school year. I participated in Study Buddy Night on Monday, May 16. We ate snacks and studied for all of our finals together. It was a great night to converse with my classmates.
Special Committee: I am participating in the student committee for the challenge. We are passing out Oreos with positive messages to the students and we are having otter pops in the amphitheater. On Friday, we hosted a team jeopardy game for spirit items, promoting the end of the year dance. Student Appreciation week is all about the students and creating a positive atmosphere for their last semester.
Mentorship Evaluation: Emma is the best mentor I will ever have in this program. I love her so much. She is the older sister I never had. I will never forget her farewell in class. I rarely cry the way I did that day. I was extremely emotional because I do not want her to leave. High school will not be the same without her. I am going to miss her so much next year.
Concerns: As we near the end of the school year, leadership has been less busy. I am concerned about our plans for next year. What will rallies look like if we continue to have them? None of us will have a lot of experience with rallies and how to coordinate them.
Positive Comment: I would like to give a positive comment to Gideon Waters. I do not think that he gets the recognition that he deserves. He has worked very hard to put together the end of the year video. I think that it is going to turn out great. I look forward to watching it at the end of the year rally.
Change: One change that I would like to suggest for next school year is more frequent rotations in the seating chart. I love the people that I sit by right now, but I have been sitting with them for a long time now. I would like to switch up the seating arrangement more frequently so that I can converse with different people.
My Impact: I have been extremely busy outside of leadership class the past few months. Despite my busy schedule, I have always made time for my leadership family. I think that my impact for April and May has been staying positive and friendly. I have opened myself up to different people in the class and I have made friends that I would not have expected to be friends with at the beginning of the year. I am so grateful for the people in this class and I am going to stay positive for them and myself.
